XXVI IUFRO World Congress 2024
IUFRO
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the City of Stockholm in close collaboration with the Nordic and Baltic partners, welcome delegates from all over the world to Stockholm 2024 under the theme Forest and Society Towards 2050.
MOREIUFRO Seed Orchards Conference 2024: The Key Stage in Forest Tree Breeding and Sustainable Forest Management
External Meeting | IUFRO
Place: Brasov, Romania
The Seed Orchard Conference 2024 is a scientific event that aims to focus on the role of seed orchards in forest tree breeding and forest management under climate change and other societal challenges’ effects.
OptFORESTS supports the organisation of the event that will take place from May 20–24 in Brasov, Romania.
FORGENIUS Public Webinars - Fourth Edition
External Meeting | FORGENIUS project
Place: online
The EU FORGENIUS project will host the fourth edition of its Public Webinars on 7 May 2024 at 14:00 CEST. The aim of this series of events is to bring FORGENIUS topics and results to a wider audience.
Dr. Thibaut Capblancq, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Grenoble, will discuss the importance of genomic information in predicting species maladaptation to climate change. He will present the genomic offset metric and its applications.
Dr. Elia Vajana, a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources, will discuss a study analysing 54 indigenous sheep breeds from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, identifying genetic variations linked to local adaptation and predicting climate change vulnerability.
EUFORGEN Webinar - Mediterranean stone pines under attack: the invasion of the pine tortoise scale
External Meeting | EUFORGEN
Place: online
You are invited to join EUFORGEN on 2 May (14:00 - 16:00 CEST) for a new webinar addressing how the pine tortoise scale is seriously damaging stone pines and exploring how forest genetic research can bring hope for solutions.
The webinar will gather a panel of leading experts and researchers, including Magda Bou Dagher Kharrat (principal scientist at EFIMED), Bruno Fady (EFIMED visiting researcher from INRAE), and Giuseppe Scarascia (Head of Biocities Facility).
MOREINRAE Event: Mobilising research in support to the EU forest strategy for 2030
External Meeting | INRAE
Place: Brussels, Belgium
INRAE is organizing a conference dedicated to research on temperate and tropical forest ecosystems and how it can meet the objectives of the European environmental policies.
It will be a unique opportunity of dialogue between science and policy in a context where European forests and forestry stakeholders in Member States are facing major and growing challenges, as they are asked to combine the environmental, economic, social and territorial role of forests, while being exposed to various threats exacerbated by climate change.
MOREFOREGEN Workshop: Is natural regeneration effective to restore European forests after climate change-related disturbances?
External Meeting | INRAE
Place: Bordeaux, France
The FOREGEN Workshop, co-organised by the EU-funded projects OptFORESTS, SUPERB, and WildE, will debate the forests we want for the future and whether natural regeneration will be effective in restoring them.
EVOLTREE Online seminar series on "New technologies for evolution & genetics"
EVOLTREE
A new webinar series on " New technologies for evolution & genetics" will take place in November 2023. The dates are: 8, 15, 22, and 29 November 2023 all on Wednesday 16:30-18:00 CET.
The first webinar of the series will be presented by Dr Tom August with the title “New hardware and computer-vision tools are revolutionising biodiversity monitoring”.
FORGENIUS Public Webinars
The EU FORGENIUS project will host the first edition of its Public Webinars on 27 October at 14:00 CEST. The aim of this series of events is to bring FORGENIUS topics and results to a wider audience.
Project member Dr. Nicolas Martin will talk about the advances obtained by FORGENIUS on the potential role of intraspecific variability in drought resistance traits in shaping intraspecific drought resistance of tree species. Nicolas will also introduce the featured speaker Dr. Xavier Morin.
MOREEUFORGEN webinar: estimating Effective Population Size (Ne) for forest genetic resources conservation
EUFORGEN presents a new webinar series where key topics in forest genetic resources (FGR) are open for public debate. Leading experts provide their scientific arguments on a given subject, and they might not always agree!
This webinar brings together researchers working on estimating effective population size for FGR conservation to present their views and suggest methods on how to effectively estimate Ne and if it can be used as an indicator.
