Dr Santiago González-Martínez, coordinator of the OptFORESTS project, has been invited as a keynote speaker at the symposium ‘Evolutionary Genomics: Understanding and Adapting to Climate Change’, which will take place during the European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB) 2025 conference in Barcelona, from 17 to 22 August 2025.
The symposium, co-organised by the scientific journals Molecular Ecology and Evolutionary Applications, will focus on advances in evolutionary genomics aimed at understanding and supporting population adaptation to climate change. Dr González-Martínez’s participation presents an excellent opportunity to showcase the findings and impact of OptFORESTS to a high-level international audience.
Key topics will include genomic variation, adaptation to extreme temperatures, habitat loss, and the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that influence population resilience.
The symposium has also launched a call for abstracts for oral and poster presentations. Researchers from all disciplines and career stages are encouraged to submit their proposals by 25 April 2025. Selected contributions will be eligible for inclusion in a joint special issue of Molecular Ecology and Evolutionary Applications.
